McHenry leads D-Krew
Senior distance ace Hunter McHenry was the top point scorer for the endurance hounds, placing 3rd in the 1500m (4:05.28) and 4th in the 800m (2:05.79). Also scoring in the 800 was senior Dameon Zenawick (5th-2:06.26). Freshman phenom Elijah Dafoe continued his assault on the indoor grade-level record books, placing 6th in both the 1500m (4:14.60) and 3000m (9:35.74). Sophomore David Radke impressed onlookers by placing 7th out of the slow heat in the 3000m (10:10.68).
Hurdlers Show Depth
In the 60m Hurdles, the Riders placed 2-5-7-9 to show off some nice depth. Junior Carter Byron (8.77) led the charge in a runner-up finish, with junior Lukas Heydt (5th-8.96), sophomore Ben Strand (7th-9.54), and senior Isaac Schall (9th-9.86) all posting PR’s.
Triple Jump Scores Big
Three athletes scored in the triple jump Saturday, led by Heydt (4th-39’8.5), Strand (5th-38’1), and senior Simon Haug (8th-37’6.5). Haug also placed 8th in the long jump (19’2) in his first meet of the season. Byron leaped 20’1 to place third and end his day with 14.75 points (tops on the team). In the pole vault, junior Hudson Flom cleared 11’0 to finish in third place.
Brooks Makes His Season 400 Debut
Senior Gannon Brooks, returning state place winner and 2021 East Region runner-up in the 400m, ran his first open 400m of the season Saturday, finishing in an excellent time of 52.90 to place 6th. The depth of the EDC looks strong in the 400m this season, with many athletes running impressive times early in the season.
GF Indoor
The GF teams hosted another meet April 4 at UND, this time for a number of Class B teams and an assorted collection of RR and GFC athletes. The RR boys finished in second place behind a powerful squad from Harvey/Wells County

Lambl Leads Legion
Freshman Logan Lambl was the top point scorer for the team, earning 13.75 points. He placed 3rd in the 60 (7.73), 4th in the 200 (25.09), and ran legs on the 2nd place 4×2 and 6th place 4×4 team.
Relay Bonanza
Coach Bakke used some restraint Monday and ONLY entered two 4×8 teams, five 4×2 teams, and six 4×4 squads. Splits were taken for each athlete and a number of guys turned in solid performances in what was the first relay experience for many athletes. The 4×8 Sprinter experiment was also entertaining (and successful). Don’t be surprised if you see more of the long sprinters continue to move up in distance this season.

Nguyen Takes Risk, Suffers the Consequences
Since day one of practice, promising freshman Nathan Nguyen had been posting impressive acceleration and jumping marks in early season testing. Due to spring break and an alarm clock malfunction, Monday was his first meet. After showing up late to the meet with Chik-fil-A in hand, it was suggested to Nathan that perhaps devouring such a meal minutes before a track meet might not be a wise decision, especially when he is entered in the 4×2 and 4×4 relay. After a nice debut in the 60m (8.08), Nathan managed his 4×2 leg with only a mild showing of discomfort and headed to the sand pits for his main event, the long jump. It was here where the Track Gods decided to punish Nathan for pounding Chik-fil-A before the competition and missing the previous meet. Somehow, Nathan shattered his fibula upon entering the sand pit. Never in Coach Delmore’s storied and illustrious 47-year coaching career has he ever seen an athlete break a leg by jumping into the sand. Unfortunately for Nathan and our team, this was the year. We look forward to Nathan’s return next season!
Parks Scores 12 in Second Meet
In his second meet of the season, freshman Pearce Parks placed 4th in the 60m (7.73), 4th in the high jump (5’6), and led off the 2nd place 4×2 relay team.
Four Place in Vault
The RR pole vault crew placed four athletes Monday. Hudson Flom cleared 11’0 in 2nd place, followed by junior Jack Kouba making a triumphant return to the event after being injured most of last season (4th-10’0). Freshman Carter Flom and sophomore Joe Nowatzki also cleared 8’0 and tied for 7th.
