Jumpers/Hurdlers Lead Rider Charge
Senior Tyler Enerson was the team’s top point scorer for the second week in a row, leading the Red River boys to a 5th place finish at the NDSU State Indoor Meet Friday. The team finish was the top place for all EDC schools at the meet, with RR scoring 48 points, just four ahead of West Fargo’s 44.
In a span of roughly five minutes, Enerson won the 60m Hurdles in a PR time of 8.35, placed third in the long jump (21’1.25), and raced to the high jump apron where he cleared a height on his way to an eighth place jump of 5’10. He ended his busy night with the team’s top 4×400 split (55.7).
Also performing well was the senior-sophomore combo of Devon Pope and Carlos Horcacitas-Martin. Pope reversed his finish from last week, taking the triple jump title in a new indoor PR of 45’1. He also placed 4th in the LJ (20’3.75), ran a leg on the 8th place 4×200 Relay, and set a new PR of 7.40 in the 60m Dash. Horcacitas-Martin, battling illness all week, competed hard and ended up third in the TJ (44’5.25), seventh in the LJ (20’0.25), and anchored the 4×200 Relay. Senior Peter Wysocki raced to 3rd place in the 60m Hurdles (8.59), just .03 off his lifetime best from last season. He also matched Pope’s 7.40 time in the 60m Dash and ran a strong leg on the 4x400m Relay to close the meet.
Other bright spots included PR splits from Marcelles Sartwell (2:10.0) and Dalton Byrne (2:09.9) in the 4x800m Relay and Byrne’s 10:17.79 8th place finish in the 2 Mile Run. One of the most encouraging performances came in the high jump, where Pierson Painter cleared 5’10. Painter missed most of last season due to injury, but looks to add some depth to the team after a strong basketball season. In the shot put, senior Nick Stahl hit the 44’ barrier for the first time for a new PR. Ty Ogren (42’6) and Liam Ogren (42’1.5) also threw lifetime or indoor bests in the competition.

Those who did not travel to Fargo loaded a packed bus and headed to Bemidji Saturday morning. This turned out to be a great meet to gain experience and earn lettering points, as athletes squared off against some tough varsity Minnesota competition, including Moorhead, Bemidji, and International Falls.
The team finished in 3rd place, with freshman Ethan Brandvold the big point scorer for the Riders. He placed 2nd in the 200m (24.94), 7th in the 60m Dash (7.67), and also led off the 4x200m Relay, which finished in 2nd place (1:41.85). Completing the relay with strong legs were Alessandro Kroeger, Bryce Enerson, and Larry Pope. Kroeger also ran well in the 200m, finishing in 3rd place with a 25.26.
Another exciting event proved to be the shot put, where Seth Hanson (4th-40’5.5), Luke Anderson (5th-39’4), Dawson Brandvold (7th-38’8), and Brett Klefstad (9th-38’2) all placed in the top ten. This event group continues to improve rapidly and looks to be a promising one!
Three 4x200m and 4x400m Relay teams highlighted the willingness of athletes to get out and compete, with many throwers dipping into uncharted waters and racing around the oval. The team will get a solid week’s worth of training in before heading to Fargo again on Friday for the EDC Indoor.
