Wayzata Relays
May 3, 2019 @ 3:00 pm
***This is a unique opportunity for the team. Wayzata HS, a track and field powerhouse in Minnesota, is coached by ‘98 Red River grad Aaron Berndt. They have won 6 straight MN True Team titles and are the defending MN AA Champions. For 10 consecutive years, they have placed as a top-three team in MN AA. Berndt is a former All-American middle-distance runner at UND and litters the All-Time lists at RRHS, currently sitting #11 in the 200m, #2 in the 400m, #16 in the 800, #3 in the 200 relay split (21.5), #1 in the 400 relay split (48.3), #2 in the 800 relay split (1:56.0). On the relay lists, he is a member of the #10 4×200 team (1:31.25), #1 4×400 team (3:22.75), and #5 4×800 team (8:04.03). The meet will be a great test for the Riders, as many of the top AA teams from around the metro area are set to compete. Boys teams in the field include Wayzata, Chaska, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Mounds View, Woodbury, and Brainerd. This is believed to be the first time the RR Boys will travel to the Twin Cities area for a track and field meet.

**We will get home quite late (past midnight). We’ll have a better idea of exact arrival after we leave the meet.
We will stop somewhere on the way home or get food delivered. More info on this to come.
Who are we competing against?
All other teams at the meet will be from Minnesota. All teams are “metro” high schools, from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. The only exception are the Warriors from “up Brainerd.” People from the big city speak a strange dialect of English called “urban speak.” It may be hard for us laid back country folk from the Red River Valley to understand their speech completely. If you are having troubles at the meet, make sure to find Coach Muir. He grew up in the northern suburbs and should be able to translate, or at least get the main points across.
