With the EDC Outdoor Meet less than two weeks away, the Red River boys used meets in Fargo and Minot this past week to drop times and hit new distances as they head closer to postseason competition.

Fargo Rotary

The Fargo Rotary was held on Monday in cold, rain, and wind. Performances may have suffered but multiple athletes managed to ignore the weather and compete at a high level. He won the Triple Jump (42’7), placed 3rd in the Long Jump (20’2), 3rd in the 110 Hurdles (16.09), and teamed with George Nyanforh, Ty Boucher, and Parker Carroll to place 6th in the 4×400 (3:41.24). Radke/Orvik Classic

The Riders headed west on Highway 2 Friday for the Radke/Orvik Classic in Minot. The meet is held every year, rotating between the hosts of Minot High and Fargo South. The boys only meet serves as a great chance to size up the competition from the West, as teams from Bismarck, Mandan, and Minot joined RR, GFC, Fargo South, Fargo Davies, and West Fargo. Another unique aspect of this meet is the modified true team scoring format, which allows for 3 athletes per event and scoring from every single competitor. Teams are rewarded for depth and quality across all events. Cold temperatures and strong winds once again hindered the long sprint, distance, and relay times, but competition was the main focus here. Tyler Enerson led all point scorers with 16.5 points. He hit 6’ in the High Jump to place 3rd. He also finished 4th in both hurdle races and joined George Nyanforh, Ty Boucher, and Carlos Horcacitas to place 7th in the 4×400. Alex Holmes managed three PR’s in a great outing, clearing 13’6 in the Pole Vault to win the competition and setting new personal bests in the Long Jump and 400. Kishen Patel continued his incredible season of first year pole vaulting, clearing 11’6 in a new PR. He has now improved 4.5’ since his first meet 7’ clearance in March. Daniel Pierce (172’6), Liam Ogren (158’3), and Ty Ogren (157’8) placed 2-3-4 to pile up team points in the Javelin. Carter Buelow (141’6) and Ty Ogren (132’) both hit a new PR’s in the Discus and are looking strong as we head into the EDC week. Times suffered in the distance races, but Ty Boucher still ran well and used a ferocious kick to place 4th in the 800 at 2:05.94. Ben Hutchison fought the wind for 8 laps and finished in 4th with a time of 10:07.62.

Meet organizers in Minot saved the most exciting competition for last, as all other events had finished by the time the Triple Jump finals had even started. With the remainder of their teammates providing support, Devon and Carlos joined with athletes from a GFC and Fargo South for a thrilling Triple Jump competition. With athletes from RR, GFC, and South providing cheers and rhythmic clapping, the atmosphere was electric. Devon delivered with a 45’6 jump, which is a PR by .25” and extends his state leading mark and RR junior class record. Carlos, despite running a strong split in the 4×400 only 10 minutes prior, rose to the occasion and reached a new PR of 44’1. Sam from GFC also benefitted from the crowd and jumped 44’6 on his last attempt, surpassing Carlos. In the end, Grand Forks placed 1-2-3 in the event to conclude a great overall meet.

The Riders placed third overall in the team scoring, behind defending State Champion Bismarck Century and host Minot.
