Runners-Up at EDC Indoor

  • April 2, 2017

With the 2017 EDC Indoor Meet expanded to eight entries and two relay teams per school, the meet Friday turned into a marathon. When the dust finally settled, the Riders had accumulated 108 team points, only 6 points behind team champion Fargo North. Strong showings from Fargo South and the dangerous potential of Davies, West Fargo, and Sheyenne once we move to the outdoor season foreshadowed what will be an undoubtedly exciting 2017 East Region Outdoor Championships in May.

The usual suspects were the big point scorers for RRHS on Friday. Senior Tyler Enerson continued his assault on the competition Friday, amassing 26.75 points by placing first in both the 60m Hurdles (8.48) and long jump (21’0.5), third in the high jump (5’10), and leading off the 6th place 4x400m Relay with a strong split. Senior Devon Pope followed up his state indoor title from last week with an impressive triple jump title. After running the team’s fastest 4x200m Relay split of the season, which finished third, he managed to increase his triple jump indoor best to 45’5 and move into first place. He also placed second in the long jump (20’11.5) to finish the meet with 19.5 points. Sophomore Carlos Horcacitas-Martin (15.5 points) finished runner-up in the triple jump with a new personal best (45’1.5), third in both the long jump (19’11.5) and 60m Hurdles (9.41), and anchored the third place 4x200m Relay.

The Roughriders piled up points in bunches Friday, placing three in the 60m Hurdles, Triple Jump, Long Jump, High Jump, and 3200m Run. The big surprise of the day was the return of 8th Grader George Nyanforh, who managed an eye-opening 43’5 in the triple jump. The mark completed a 1-2-3 RR sweep and was a personal best by nearly four feet. Senior Peter Wysocki ran .01 off of his personal best to finish second in the 60m Hurdles (8.57). In addition to Enerson, junior Josh Eagleton and freshman Bryce Enerson both cleared 5’7 to finish 5th and 8th, respectively. The 3200m Run saw junior Dalton Byrne run a fantastic 10:11.17 for third place, followed by Ben Hutchison in 6th (10:31.76) and Cole Stenseth in 7th (10:34.31).

Other scorers on Friday included senior Kishen Patel in the pole vault (5th-12’0), junior Tyler Burian in the 200m (7th-24.19), and senior Nick Stahl in the shot put (7th-45’7.5). All relay teams placed, with the 4×200 (Burian, Pope, E. Brandvold, Horcacitas-Martin) in third (1:36.61), 4×800 (Sartwell, Valentine, Yahye, Byrne) in fifth (9:06.42), and 4×400 (Enerson, Kroeger, Wysocki, Valentine) in sixth (3:47.74).

In total, 26 personal bests were set by RR athletes at the meet, a testament to the hard work our athletes have been putting in at practice. The final indoor meet of the season will be Tuesday at the Aurora Borealis Meet in Bemidji. Check the RR Boys Results link below to see all of the PR’s.
